Amaco Crawls will bring ceramic surfaces to life with unique, spontaneous patterns every time!
Traditionally seen as a flaw - these glazes are made to embrace glaze crawl. Crawling occurs when the glaze pulls back from the surface during firing, creating a textured, uneven finish that reveals the underlying clay body or other glaze layers.
These glazes can be used by themselves or layered over underglazes or other cone 5/6 glazes for dynamic effects.
CR-18 is a glossy blush glaze with black specks designed for layering that when fired, crawls into organic shapes, adding colour variation to the underlying glaze. The result is a unique, multidimensional effect with subtle depth.
Apply 1-4 even coats of glaze to cone 04 bisque. Allow each coat to dry almost fully, but before any significant cracking occurs. Crawl glazes will develop hairline cracks as they dry; handle with care. For added durability before firing, layer over an AMACO Celadon glaze or underglaze.
More coats create larger glaze dots, while thinner coats produce a finer bead effect. Increased coats will produce more cracks. Fire to cone 5-6 for best results.
These glazes are food safe when layered over AMACO Celadons.
Due to variations in raw materials used during manufacturing, we recommend firing glazed test tiles before using each new batch number of glaze.
